Frequently Asked Questions

Who can get a massage?

Massage therapy can provide significant benefits for almost anyone; from infant through to seniors. People with certain health conditions do have to be careful or receive a modified treatment.  Check with your doctor if you are unsure.

What do I wear?

Whatever you’re comfortable in. During a massage, only the area being manipulated is exposed and the rest of your body is covered with a sheet and/or blanket. If you are uncomfortable with removing any clothing items, your therapist can alter the massage to allow for this. Remember – it’s your choice as to what you wear. If you are still unsure most people leave their underpants on.

What can I expect from my first visit?

On your first visit, you will be required to fill out a Case History form (a confidential form on your health). Afterward, your therapist will do an assessment based on the information you provide. The therapist will then discuss with you the treatment options and get your consent to go ahead. The therapist will then leave the room to give you privacy while you are changing and getting onto the table.
You can expect the clinic to be clean and private, including fresh sheets on the table for each person.

How soon will I see results?

Results differ from person to person and will depend on the reason you are seeking treatment. The benefits of a relaxation massage will be seen almost immediately. The results of treatment for an injury may require more than one visit, depending on the severity. Also, how well you maintain your self-care program will affect the rate of healing.

How often should I go for a massage?

Every situation is unique and depends on your goals and conditions. Treatment for an injury may require a couple of visits per week or month,  whereas relaxation massages once every 4-6 weeks will probably be just about right.

Is it painful?

Massage therapy is designed with the client’s needs in mind and, therefore, doesn’t have to be painful. By communicating with your therapist, your treatment will be designed to suit your needs. Myofascial release, deep tissue work and trigger point therapy are often perceived as a “good hurt”. Any tenderness following these should not last longer than 24 hours and the benefits should outweigh any negatives.

What forms of payment does the clinic accept?

Currently, Kneaded Touch Massage Therapy Clinic accepts Cash, Debit, Master Card, Visa, and American Express, as well as e-transfers. We are unable to directly bill your extended health care insurer but we do provide receipts with registration number so you can be reimbursed.

Does OHIP or insurance cover the cost of therapy?

OHIP does not cover the cost of massage therapy; however, many extended health benefit plans cover massage either partially or fully. For many of these plans, a doctor’s note is required. Check with your health insurance provider for details.

Do you accept Blue Cross?

Yes. Many of our therapists are registered with the RCMP and Veterans Affairs. Not everyone is so please check our bios to find the appropriate therapist.
